Jane Fay Baker
Jane Fay Baker has been making woodcuts for over 25 years. She grew up on Cape Cod hanging around the towns of Woods Hole and Nantucket and both of these places have influenced her interests and style. She is drawn to life at the edge of the sea and the iconography of marine creatures. To make a woodcut, Jane draws her work out onto a sanded board and then carves away the image using her hand tools. She then inks the block with a brayer, lays the paper over the top and rubs the back of the paper with a wooden spoon to transfer the image. Each print is made by hand in additions of 50 or less, some are also then hand-colored and framed by the artist. When the last print is pulled the block is destroyed.
